Kavanagh Clan Sweater

Cavanagh, Cavanaugh, Kavanaugh, Ó Caomhánaigh.

Ó Caomhánaigh comes from the Gaelic word “Caomhánach”, which means ‘a follower of (St.) Caomhán’. The Kavanaghs are directly descended from Art Mac Murrough, who was King of Leinster in the 12th century. At that time the family owned vast tracts of land in the regions of Co. Carlow and Co. Wexford, which was then known as Kavanagh Country. Kavanagh is currently the 53rd most numerous surname in Ireland.

The hand knit Kavanagh sweater has a honeycomb centre panel, flanked by cable, plait, and chevron stitches on either side. The honeycomb stitch represents work, and the cable stitch is a wish for good luck. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
